MCI has joined partners to produce practical implementation guides on city investment promotion, and urban planning and design. 

• Handbook on Investment Promotion in Medium-Size, Low-Budget Cities in Emerging Markets. This handbook is a joint publication of the Vale Columbia Center on Sustainable International Investment and the Millennium Cities Initiative and offers recommendations to assist medium-size, low-budget cities in creating a capacity for investment promotion. 
  • The Handbook has also been edited and translated into Spanish by ProsperAr, the National Investment Promotion Agency of Argentina. • Urban Development in Accra, Ghana: An Implementation Toolkit. This toolkit was prepared by the Urban Design Lab as an outcome of a joint collaboration with MCI and the Urban Design Program at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. With an introduction by Earth Institute Director Jeffrey D. Sachs, the volume is the culmination of extensive site analysis and design studies based on criteria related to cultural continuities, social capital and financial resources in the communities of Nima and Ga Mashie, in consultation with local partners. The flexibility of the strategic evidence-based Urban Design approach is intended to facilitate appropriate solutions for increased public and private investment in upgrading these underserved downtown communities, and sets the ground for further design and planning work, in both neighborhoods and beyond. To purchase a printed copy, please click here.
